On November 11th, Professor Corlett  gave an invited plenary presentation at "Symposium of Integrative Conservation II: World Tour’, organized by the Center for Ecological Research at Kyoto University, Japan.

His topic was ‘How do the East Asian tropics differ from other tropical regions?’ The symposium was attended by around 150 people, including many graduate students.

This was followed the next day by a field workshop at the Ashiu Forest Research Station, which is set among a large area of old-growth temperate forests. Then on November 13th Prof. Corlett moved to the Primate Research Institute in Nagoya: the largest primate-focused research institute in the world, with a global reputation in primate ecology, behavior, and cognitive science.

On November 14th he contributed to a day-long special seminar on ‘Comparing East Asian Tropical and Temperate Forests’, with a presentation entitled ‘East Asia: from the equator to the temperate zone’.

Both visits allowed plenty of opportunity for in-depth discussions of biogeographical and ecological patterns, both across the global tropics and within East Asia.
