China-Myanmar friendship forest project completed

The China-Myanmar friendship forest ecological project came to a successful completion on August 31. At the ceremony marking the completion, Mr. U Ohn Win, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation, said that Myanmar has planned to promote bamboo production industry in the country in cooperation with China.

The Minister said that authorities will promote bamboo production industry and enhance scientific research development with the help of China, aimed at reducing dependency on timber production and deforestation and promoting sustainable management of Myanmar's forest.

Chinese Ambassador Hong Liang noted that China has invested in the initial phase of the project to assist Myanmar in ecological restoration.

Over 121,000 saplings have been planted, covering an area of 100 acres so far, Hong said.

At the completion ceremony, representatives from Southeast Asia Biodiversity Research Institute (SEABRI) and Myanmar Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation jointly planted a sapling of Myanmar ironwood.

The friendship forest project, located in Nay Pyi Taw, was launched in October 2016, with representatives of the two countries jointly planting saplings of symbolizing bilateral friendship. The China-Myanmar friendship forest ecological project is aimed at greening Myanmar more and adding more gloss to the country. It further sped up realization of reforestation and reservation of sufficient forest resources for sustainable development of national ecological security as well as creation of condition of developing of agro-economy.
