XTBG holds 10th Birding Festival

Experienced birders, enthusiastic birdwatchers or environmental protection organizations gathered together at Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG) for the 10th XTBG Birding Festival from November 17-20. Through the cameras of the birders, 164 bird species have been recorded at the festival, including a new bird record (Seicercus affinis) in Xishuangbanna. Up to now, 311 bird species have been recorded in XTBG.  

The major activities of the 10th XTBG Birding Festival included 24-hour bird-watching race, popular science lectures, and stall displays.   

The bird-watching race brought together 16 teams. Recording 100 bird species respectively, the “Queyue nature team” from Zhejiang and a team from Beijing and Shenzhen won the first prize in line. “Beijing Feiyu team” won the third prize by watching 89 bird species in 24 hours. 

The popular science lectures brought wide audience from both online and offline. Chinese famous photographer Xi Zhinong, birder Zeng Xiangle, illustrator Zheng Qiuyang, and You Xinhan from Optisan all presented wonderful lectures. 

The stall displays brought together 22 institutions concerning biodiversity conservation. The different cultural creative products were very popular ad attracted visitors to buy.   

The 10th birding Festival got financial support from Optisan, designed and engineered for outdoor enthusiasts since 1998.
