An awarding ceremony was held at Jinghong Xiaojie Central Primary School on June 12 to recognize its winning of the Green Flag of Eco-Schools.

In cooperation with Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical garden (XTBG), Xiaojie Primary School followed the 7-Step methodology which carefully engineered measures to help schools maximize the success of their Eco-School ambitions.

From 2014 on, XTBG has helped the school build a native tree nursery, established a nature club among its students in the fourth grade and regularly gave students lectures on biodiversity conservation.

Members of the nature club were invited to join in XTBG’s ecological restoration projectplanting species of native trees on a holy hill of the Dai ethnic group at Manyangguang village, which is located near the school.

Members of the nature club also had opportunities to visit XTBG and receive nature education.

ABOUT

Eco-Schools is the largest global sustainable schools program – it starts in the classroom and expands to the community by engaging the next generation in action-based learning.

The program’s greatest achievement is arguably the fact that it produces generation after generation of sustainably minded, environmentally conscious people. These individuals will carry the behavioral patterns they uptake under the auspices of Eco-Schools with them through life, in turn teaching the next generation the habits to make a difference.
